When it comes time to consider braces in Las Vegas, we have your best smile in mind. Our experienced team of orthodontic professionals will sit down with you to help you find a convenient and cost-effective plan for your teeth.
Braces are one of the most popular, economic, and time-tested methods of correcting overbites, underbites, and crooked teeth. Left untreated, these issues can worsen over time and create costly and painful problems later in life.
Braces straighten teeth and correct imperfections in your bite by applying a small amount of continuous pressure to your teeth over time. Braces are made up brackets, which are bonded to the front of your teeth, and archwires, which attach to the brackets and provide the appropriate pressure to guide your teeth in line. To correct your bite, detachable orthodontic bands may also be used to realign your jaw.
The day your braces are placed will be the most intensive part of the process. A cheek retractor will be used to allow access to your teeth and keep your mouth dry throughout the procedure. To ensure proper bonding of the brackets, your teeth will be dried and polished and conditioned. An adhesive primer will be applied to the front of the teeth to prepare them for brackets.
The brackets will be carefully placed on the front of your teeth and secured with special dental cement. Once the brackets have been firmly attached to the front of your teeth, the archwires will be put into place and secured with the special orthodontic bands. While this process varies from patient to patient, it generally takes about 20-30 minutes. It is normal to experience some soreness after the initial placement of braces. We recommend over the counter pain medication and a diet of soft foods until your braces feel natural.
Living with braces should not affect your daily life whatsoever. Continue to maintain regular brushing and cleaning practices and increase your brushing to three times a day. A water pick can also be a helpful tool to clean beneath your archwires and special threaders will be provided by your orthodontist to help you floss.
While eating with braces should not be a problem, we recommend avoiding certain foods that could damage your braces. Hard foods like apples can lead to detachment and sticky foods like candy or gummies can break the bond of your brackets. Any damage or detachment could derail your progress, so schedule an adjustment appointment right away.
As the braces do their work and your teeth begin to slowly move, regular brief appointments with your orthodontist will be required to track your progress and make necessary adjustments. While it varies throughout the process and from patient to patient, these appointments can be scheduled every three to ten weeks.
During these check-ins, your orthodontist will track your progress and refine the pressure of your archwire so that we can be sure you’re on the way to a flawless smile. Our orthodontists will answer any questions and make sure that the process is as comfortable as possible for you. After each adjustment procedure, you can expect slight soreness, which can be treated with over the counter medication. The soreness should go away within a day and is a sign your braces are doing their job.
“I have been terrified of the dentist all my life but the Doctors and staff at Sahara Dental changed my whole opinion on the subject!! I would recommend them to everyone and anyone!” — Kymberly-Marie S.
Before you know it, your teeth will have seamlessly shifted into flawless position and you’ll be ready to take your braces off! When your orthodontist decides your treatment is complete you will come in for the removal process.
This procedure is simple and practically pain-free. Your orthodontist will remove the archwires and carefully detach the brackets from your teeth by gently squeezing the brackets to release the adhesive bond. Once all of your brackets have been taken out, excess cement will be carefully removed so that you’re left with clean and perfectly straight teeth.
The length of time braces are necessary varies from patient to patient, but generally, most cases can be solved in ten to twenty-four months, depending on the severity of the case and the desired results.
Moderate soreness after the initial procedure and some adjustment appointments can be expected. This means the braces are working. Treat your pain with over the counter medication. If the pain is severe, see your orthodontist right away.
